Camaro rekindles love of U.S. pony car

Is it possible to dislike the Chevy Camaro?

The only reason I ask is because I am still in love with this car 44 years after I first laid eyes on it. I have similar feelings about the Ford Mustang, the model that created the "pony car" genre.

Like the Mustang, the Camaro has held true to its legacy. In fact, the fifth-generation Camaro reminds me more of the 1967 original than many of the interceding versions, some of which seemed almost muscle-bound.

After a seven-year hiatus, Chevy brought back the Camaro as a 2009 model with some cunning retro styling cues amid improved technology in a reasonable price range. Affordability was always a hallmark. A young person with a part-time or entry-level job could find a way to make payments on a Camaro if he or she were willing to cut costs elsewhere.

Buyers could also decide how much performance they needed. They could equip the Camaro with a brutish V8 engine, but they would never have to apologize for the base V6.

That is certainly true of the 2011 model. The 3.6-liter V6 boasts 312 horsepower, an 8-horsepower ratings upgrade over the 2010 model. (Engineers didn't actually boost output, they simply discovered the V6 was more powerful than they originally thought.)

Starting at $23,506 for the LS trim, Camaro coupe price tags rise to $24,606 for the LT trim and $31,795 for the SS trim with a 6.2-liter, 426-horsepower V8. All prices cover manual, six-speed transmissions, which are terrific fun to manipulate. The six-speed automatic is a $1,185 option and comes with the 2LT or 2SS trim.

The review car was a 2LT with a $1,500 RS package that included 20-inch painted aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, high-intensity headlamps and distinctive RS tail lamps.

For 2011, Chevrolet is offering Synergy Green Metallic paint for a limited time, with matching instrument and door panels.

Head-Up Display, now standard on 2LT and 2SS equipment packages, projects vehicle speed and other data onto the windshield for easy viewing. That system fits with the intuitive feel of the knobs and dials for audio and ventilation control.

The coupe's front bucket seats are comfortable and secure with multiple adjustments that should suit drivers of various proportions. If the coupe has a design flaw, it's the low roofline limiting the driver's upward visibility through the windshield. I tended to crane my neck at intersections to see the traffic lights.

In the case of Camaro, though, the cabrio version is new because GM only re-introduced the Camaro hardtop in 2009. Mini offers its flagship MINI Copper as a cabrio, as well, at a starting price of $24850. The Volkswagen Eos starts at $33895.

how much will the new 2009 chevrolet camaro cost? | Chevy ...

The truth is it will cost as much as you pay for it so do some checking around here are some links below http://www.autotrader.com/research/research.jsp?restype=new , http://www.kbb.com/kbb/NewCars/default.aspx also if you wait a year you will save alot of money the cost of the new cars are going up about a thousand a year due to add-ons like GPS and electronic maps

There is no official pricing from GM, but the automotive press believes that base (V6) versions will start in the low $ 20,000 range, with upscale and V8-powered versions starting a little below $ 30,000. You can bet, however, that if demand is high (which GM believes there is), dealers will add considerable markup to the price of the car. Some folks out there will pay anything to be the first person on the block with a new car.

Zero, because it won’t be an ***09*** Camaro; the model year will be ***10*** and it will be released in January 2009 (as of now; that may change later this year).

As for price, I expect they will make it competitive with the Mustang (though as far as performance goes, there is NO comparison, the Camaro wins hands down).

We haven’t been given much about the Camaro at work, aside from the release date I quoted and the model year attached to it. They may not publicize accessories until closer to the release date; and I haven’t found any reputable online resources regarding the Camaro or any accessories.
